From June 7 to 8, EcoClam participated in the annual Jeju Garlic Festival—an event that brings together local residents, visitors, and community organizations to celebrate culture, sustainability, and shared values. As an environmental club committed to climate awareness and student-led action, we saw this as an opportunity to connect with the broader Jeju community and promote eco-conscious living in an engaging and accessible way.

EcoClam hosted an interactive booth at the festival, offering two hands-on activities: garlic painting and recycled bottle coloring. These creative stations were open to all ages and designed to raise environmental awareness through fun and approachable experiences. Community members were invited to decorate used plastic bottles—collected and cleaned by our members—as a way to highlight the importance of reuse and upcycling. Garlic painting served as a playful, thematic activity that celebrated local agriculture while drawing attention to the intersection of food systems and sustainability.

Throughout the event, our team engaged directly with visitors, sharing EcoClam’s mission and ongoing projects. We explained the goals behind our magazine, awareness campaigns, and student-led environmental actions, encouraging festivalgoers to reflect on their own relationship with waste, consumption, and daily habits.

We also distributed reusable eco-bags designed and produced by our own club members. These bags not only promoted waste reduction and mindful shopping habits, but also served as a symbol of our belief that everyday choices can lead to lasting environmental change.

In addition, we organized a small-scale fundraiser to support future EcoClam initiatives. The funds raised during the festival will help us continue our work on educational campaigns, sustainability workshops, and community outreach programs in the coming months.

EcoClam’s participation in the Garlic Festival was more than just a booth—it was an opportunity to demonstrate the power of youth-led environmental action in real time. By combining creativity, education, and advocacy, we continue to build a stronger culture of sustainability in Jeju and beyond.
